Do the Right Thing
A learning object is a teaching resource that can be used and reused to support learning. I used Bitstrips to create a comic that could help students discuss caring and honesty. This could be used in conjunction with the grade 5 Health and Physical Education Curriculum. Specifically, students are prompted to identify factors (e.g., trust, honesty, caring) that enhance healthy relationships with friends, family, and peers. This comic could serve as an example and then students could make their own!
Allowing students to use an interesting new tool, like Bitstrips, in conjunction with a health lesson would not only help them develop technological skills, but it will also inspire them to actually think through a health scenario.
I found Bitstrips very easy to use. Now, I am confident enough to teach others how to use the resource. I feel as though sharing their comics would help students to discuss complicated issues without feeling self-conscious; after all it's a comic character talking, not you!
