My Philosophy of Tech‐enhanced Teaching

Tech-Enhanced Teaching helps teachers to promote a new literacy; a literacy that is relevant to students today. I believe it is important to allow students the opportunity to engage with and learn from technology.

A Note to Parents...

We're Writing Myths!

To work on reading and writing various text forms, we're using our knowledge of myths to develop our own mythological creation stories!

How did the iPod come into being?

Why do we have toes?

How was snow created?

We're using our writing skills--and our imaginations!--to answer the unanswerable questions!

Expectations we're covering:

Overall:
Language: Reading 1, 2
Language: Writing 1, 3

Specific:
Language: Reading 1.6 (Extending Understanding), 2.4 (Elements of Style)
Language: Writing 1.1 (Purpose and Audience), 3.3 (Vocabulary), 3.5 (Grammar)

Take a look at the curriculum document:

Myths!

Grade 5 Students... It's time to write our own myths!

Remember the characteristics of myths while you...
(check your Language Arts notebooks)
Brainstorm and plan your own creation story!
Think of something that you cannot explain and use the genre of myth to creatively explain how it came into being!

A Great Resource for Students!

I love encouraging my students to read the news!

"Teaching Kids News:"

I ask students to use this site often in order to keep track of global happenings!

I love having ctudents create their own newscast, write their own news article, or reflect upon news in their hometown! These are great ways to develop reading, writing, oral communication, and media literacy! Wow!

On this page, I will be posting interesting resources that I'm using in my grade 5 classroom! I particularly enjoy Language Arts and Music, so you'll notice an emphasis on these subject areas! I want to stress reading, writing, oral communication, and media literacy skills in the classroom. Also, I want to showcase how easy it is to incorporate music into classroom activities!
